Virtual Audio Cables on OS X: A Game-Changer for Simple Routing

As of May 19th, that all changed and now we have virtual audio cables to do simple routing! I've had to do is select the VB-cable as the source and select that as my speaker.

I must admit, I'm a huge fanboy of VoiceMeeter and VC-Audio, so responses like 'I can do that with the $1 and it's better' or 'that's not open source' will fall on deaf ears. I used VoiceMeeter Potato, VC-cable (virtual cables) on my personal workstation (WIN10) but at the time (six months ago), VB-Audio was 100% Windows-only.

I found some deprecated software as well as $100 DAWs but very few things to virtually route audio in a simple way. VB-Audio virtual cables are now available for macOS (v10.10-10.15/64 bits), supporting connection of audio applications together.

After firing up OBS on the Mac, I found there were 0 decent and affordable options that were easy to install and use. They have a 'pay if you like it but use it for free' licenser model. I like to create training videos for junior teammates, stream demos, etc., and have done this on a WIN10 system using most of the products.

After switching companies, I finally got a MacBook Pro for a workstation and one of the first things I tried was to install OBS to record and/or stream. VB-Cable C+D should be released in July 2020.

I have FINALLY found a solution that works and is easy. The VB-Cable virtual audio device is available for free to test and simple donation-ware while the VB-Cable A+B package is distributed as $5-$25 donation-ware.
